Location of Essan Cottage
Essan Cottage is located just off the beautiful Road to the Isles. To reach the cottage first follow the A82 and head for Fort William.
From there take the A830, otherwise known as the Road to the Isles, and follow signs for Morar.
Morar is reached approximately three miles before Mallaig.
The turning for the Cottage is well signposted once Morar is reached. You turn right off the A830 and follow a single track road for half a mile or so. Essan Cottage is situated on your right just before you reach the Morar hotel.
The roads to Morar are a pleasure to drive on, with wonderful views. Mallaig is well signposted with access via the A830 (The Road to the Isles). Once Morar is reached the cottage is easy to spot with its prominent location.
If you are travelling by bus to Fort William, the Scottish Citylink website gives all necessary timetable details. Car Hire is available in Fort William, or you can carry on to Morar using the train (see below for timetable link).
Scotrail runs a regular service from Glasgow Queen Street along the famous West Highland Line. There are four trains a day between Glasgow and Fort William and all trains carry on to Mallaig via Morar. The train station is adjacent to the Morar Hotel which is opposite Eassan Cottage, allowing guests to free themselves from the car. Timetable details available on the Scotrail website
If you are coming to Morar from the Isle of Skye then you need to board the ferry at Armadale on Skye. This service as well as a daily sailing to the small isles of Eigg, Rum, Muck and Canna is operated by Caledonian MacBrayne. Click here to view their website which contains details of timetables etc.
Location of Altdarroch Farm
Altdarroch Farm self catering cottages are located 10 miles west from Fort William on the famous Road to the Isles. They are ideally situated for touring the Highlands, walking, climbing, fishing, skiing, golfing and a whole host of other activities.
The ski centre at Nevis Range is approximately fifteen miles away, and the famous monument to Bonnie Prince Charlie at Glenfinnan a mere seven miles away in the opposite direction.
Further along the Road to the Isles the fishing village of Mallaig is a drive of about one hour away, while before reaching Mallaig you will come to the Silver Sands of Morar, beaches which are second to none in Scotland, or indeed the whole of Britain.
The village of Morar overlooks the sands, and is well worth a short detour off the main road for a visit. Carry on to Mallaig, and if you are looking for somewhere to eat, try the West Highland Hotel, which overlooks the harbour across to Skye.
Coming from the south, to reach Altdarroch Farm, head to Fort William via the A82. Then take the A830 out from Fort William for approximately 10 miles. Altdarroch farm self catering is signposted and situated up a small hill on right hand side of the road. Coming from the directions of Mallaig along the A830, Altdarroch is reached six miles on from Glenfinnan.

Scotrail runs a regular service from Glasgow Queen Street along the famous West Highland line. Locheilside, one of the stations on the line, is approximately one mile from Altdarroch farm. Location of Gasgan House
Once Fort William is reached, head west along the A830 for 10 miles to reach Gasgan House self catering. The house is 0.5 mile past Locheilside Station.
